Our ability to address significant organisational challenges is shown in the following selection of recent assignments:

New service design and implementation. This project involved the evaluation of an organisation responsible for the delivery of human services to people who are highly vulnerable. The parameters for service delivery include the requirement to keep pace with the needs of consumers, as well as maintaining consistency with complex emerging legislation and policy. Evaluation and options development included extensive consultation with service recipients, staff, relevant community and government funding agencies. Transition, program management and change communication plans were also developed.

Development of an information management strategic framework and associated governance processes. The development of the information management strategic framework involved the building senior executive sponsorship, through close engagement with the top-level of the organisation, research into international best practice, extensive consultation with subject matter experts, staff and project leaders. The framework and associated governance processes were formulated and made available for extensive critique throughout the organisation. The information management strategic framework provides a significant long-term (10 year) underpinning for the design of the organisation’s structures, processes and systems into the future.

Strategic Project Coordination to establish a Corporate Social Responsibility partnership between two large global corporations based in UK and a rural community hospital in a remote African community

Compliance Program - Conduct of a Health Check reporting to a sub-committee of a large private company Board regarding a current state of compliance.

Strategic Review and Feasibility Study for the expansion of an innovative program for street children to nominated locations in Asia

Cross agency risk assessment workshop Facilitated and reported on a cross agency risk assessment and risk management strategy development workshop for a significant government policy and program initiative. The workshop involved representatives from five major government departments.

Development of a single career structure Eighteen focus groups were conducted nationally with expert scientists, professional and technical staff to determine the issues to be addressed in the development of a single career structure for a large organisation. The findings were used to support the work of a proposal development team comprising representatives of the staff, management and unions. We facilitated this process, which involved the development of a single career structure for all staff as well as the development of new performance management, career progression, recognition and promotion systems. The outcome aligned widely differing views, interests and structural arrangements and was achieved within a very tight timeframe.

Development of a first whole of state government business and ICT planning framework. This involved working directly to the CIO and stakeholder engagement with senior Government committees, departments and agencies. The work provides an enduring high level framework for future strategic business and ICT planning across government and is being used as a key reference for ongoing whole of government initiatives.

Identification of key issues and sensitivities in relation to red tape and development of case studies in regulation reform. The aim of the qualitative research was to identify key issues and sensitivities in relation to government red tape for small businesses, especially local red tape for home-based businesses. Interviews and focus group discussions were conducted with key stakeholder groups and intermediaries. The research was used to inform the development of a regulation reduction incentive fund consultation strategy. Six supporting case studies were developed to provide information and advice on best practice in regulation reform.

Mental Health Services reviews for people with severe and enduring mental health issues, including Supported Employment, Day Services and Out of Hours Services.  These reviews were formulated as a result of extensive consultation with medical and community care professionals, service users and their carers.    

Qualitative Research into the Cost, Availability and Preferences for Fresh Food Items in Remote Aboriginal Communities This investigative study was conducted in remote Aboriginal communities in Arnhemland, Northern Territory and Cape York, Far North Queensland. The report was released at a major media conference and influenced the development of a co-ordinated national response.

Review of strategic communications. This was a major review of strategic communications for the whole of government emergency response in the Northern Territory. Fianian provided strategic advice, research leadership and field research.

Mentoring small-to-medium business development. This project involved targeted training and mentoring to small-to-medium business operators to improve their existing businesses in a developing Pacific island nation.

Development of micro-business management skills. This project involved the development of a train-the-trainer micro-business development package for use in working with village and province level enterprises in Vietnam.

Needs Analysis of an Employee Assistance Program (EAP). The EAP was established to provide a confidential and professional counselling service for employees and their families. The Needs Analysis was based on stakeholder focus group discussions held in nine different national locations. Discussions focused on stakeholders’ knowledge and perceptions about the current system and the future requirements for service delivery, eligibility, referral, access, funding, reporting, promotion and marketing.

Whole of government business architcture. This has involved the development of the first whole of government business architecture and related initiatives for the management and strategic development of the border. Because of the complexity and sensitivity of this work, this has required close collaboration with senior executives and operational staff from a wide range of border and other government agencies.
